The sun was rising. The wind was whispering. And I, sitting, savoring the moment and intensely adoring the beauty of nature. It was a lovely morning, my 2nd day stay at Amorita Resort in the beautiful Island of Panglao, Bohol, touted as Asia’s “Next Bali”.  Absolute tranquility!

3-DAY BOHOL TOUR INVITATION

March 1, I received a phone invitation from Jules of GeiserMaclang re “3-Day Bohol Tour.”  A complete bliss I felt but could not give my decision right away since the tour fell on weekdays – meaning, working days. And so I asked for an extension for me to give my “NO” or “YES”.  The next day, an email invitation + itinerary was forwarded on my email. I read it and, OH MY!!! It blew my mind – a tour to see Bohol in a different light and to experience beyond Bohol’s usual attractions. I hurriedly sent a private message to my superior requesting a 3-day vacation leave. I was very lucky that my request was granted in less than 5-minute Skype-conversation. Hooray!!!  OFF TO BOHOL.

MARCH 6, HELLO BOHOL. HELLO AMORITA RESORT

We (bloggers & journalists) arrived at Tagbilaran Port, where Amorita’s Van Service awaited, around 11:30am after almost 2 hours of sea travel via OceanJet from Cebu Pier 1. From the port to the resort, the travel time was approximately 30 minutes.

At Amorita’s reception area, we were warmly greeted by the resort’s staffs. We checked-in then proceeded to Saffron Restaurant for lunch. The Resort Manager, Mr. James San Deigo, joined us as he gave background on what would happen on the whole tour and sharing a little history of the resort. A sumptuous lunch, we had. From the appetizer to the main course and to the dessert, thumbs up! (Boholano cuisines e.g. Chicken Binakol, Balbacua were served at our dining.)

By mid-afternoon, while staying in a deluxe room, we were pampered by the resort’s massage therapists’. It was an hour of sleep-inducing and over-relaxing whole body massage – a perfect breather after a long trip. After that, we had our own time wandering around Amorita and use its amenities – infinity pool, leisure area, etc.

Looking at the photo above, it indeed is a secluded place. If you are after for a place to unwind, to leave worries behind, to think of nothing, I am sure you will love this place. “Divine Abode”, you will get.

Savor the best of East and West, along with a harmonious fusion of both cuisines, in an elegant setting overlooking the infinity pool and lush gardens. Saffron Cafe, like its rare spice of a name, is a smorgasbord for the senses.

After the spa, we went here to have our dinner. The cafe will be closed at 10:00PM and gladly we arrived around 9:00PM. Forgetting the diet was my best decision to enjoy nomnoming and devouring  the dishes served. My tummy bloated , literally, after the voracious eating. We also had our breakfast here the next morning.

Azure Pool Bar

Enjoy a romantic interlude as you lounge in plush daybeds overlooking the sea. Groove to cool rhythms under a canopy of stars and coconut trees.

We were  not able to stay longer here but truly, this Bar is giving a good ambiance.  I am imagining right now while  writing, me lying down on that plush daybed holding a bottle of spirits and  staring the gazillion stars hovering the sky. Breathing and feeling the fresh sea-breeze. How’s that? I might to this the next visit here.

Infinity Pool

If you are into sun-bathing and sun-tanning, go for a day swim. Hahaha! Perfect for Summer. When I was here, I did soak and swim at night. So romantic(?)! Romantic if together with the “significant other”, but I don’t have.  HAHAHHAHA! But the experience was not totally a BOOO! It was still great. Why? Let the photo below speaks.

Beach Area

The next morning, I woke up early and roamed around the resort. Yeah! A good way of sweating in the morning since the  resort is big enough. Really enjoyed the great scenery while exploring especially at the beach area. There were even guests playing  volleyball as early as 6am. Others stayed on the daybeds alongside the beach. There were others, too, did the same thing as I, morning  jog/walk.

While enjoying our way to reach Mt. Hibok-Hibok’s crater and peak, we happened to see on the trail White Island’s aerial view. Indeed, white!

I created a poem and it’s somehow a personification type where I used “White Island” as my destined “significant other.”

Note: I’m no good in creating poem. No rhyming and everything.

from somewhere, I was once wanderin’
took breaths of the air, so fresh so sweet.
trees were dancing and birds, singin’
nature is undeniably beautiful.

I brought to a standstill and noticed a “beauty”
“thou are lovely,” I shouted in mute,
as I strode out to gaze vividly of you, I saw you no more.
“Without a doubt, I’ll soon find you.”

the day came, I settled on to finally seek you.
thrilled! excited! that’s my way to you.

How to get here + expenses:
• If you are already in Camiguin, ask your guide to bring you to Agojo, Mambajao – where the pump boats dock.
• Register and pay 20 pesos for the entrance fee/ environmental fee.
• Rent a pump boat worth 400.  Maximum of 6persons. It’s already a back-and-forth ride.

The island has no sun cover. Purely, white sands surrounded by crystal clear waters. You can go for snorkeling or just go for a dip. If you would want to rent a family-umbrella it would cost a hundred (100). Snorkeling sets, too, is worth 100 pesos.
If you are into SKIN-TANNING this summer, go for WHITE ISLAND.

It was once a dream to set-foot Mt. Hibok Hibok’s peak and to personally eyewitness this grandiose panoramic sight.

My DREAM remains a DREAM.

February 25^th of year 2012 my feet embraced and kissed Mt. Hibok Hibok’s Peak. I, together with the other FC participants,  reached the peak around 7 o’clock in the evening. No view. My dream was partly realized.

LET’s TREK.

The original itinerary was to start the trek from the Yumbing jump-off at 9:30am but because of the unexpected (over)delay arrival time of Super Shuttle Ferry (arrived past 11:00am instead of 8:00am) the schedule was evidently not followed.

And since backing-out was never an option, “To Mt. Hibok Hibok We Must Go.” The trek was in full swing around 2pm.

If my memory serves me right, this was my first ever climb to bring nothing but water. No backpack.  That was a great relief for me even for a fact that what I had during the whole trip was my 25liter day-hike pack compared to others that brought 40ltrs, 50ltrs, 60ltrs or even 70ltrs. Again only water, others carried with them trail foods. First few hours of the trek was quite sultry and hot since the sun cover was very minimal. On the trail, we were able to see Camiguin’s WHITE ISLAND, and it indeed looked WHITE from where we stand. So whoamazing!

Few more steps to reach Crater Lake

CRATER LAKE.

We reached the mossy crater around 5:00pm, more or less a 3-hour trek.  The sun light was still hovering the place but still we were not that fortunate. There was no clearing. The Crater Lake was entirely masked with fog (sigh).

We moved out from the crater when darkness fell. Rain poured a little. Heading to the summit was never easy. There was even a part that a rope was needed for us to pass and continue our way.  Along the trail were blade-sharp rocks where pitcher plants grew. There were wild berries too.

At the Peak. We made it.

There was total darkness (if disregarding our headlamps). The place was surrounded with fogs. The rain was pouring. No view.  No view of White Island.  No view of Bohol to the north. No view of   Eastern Mindanao to the east. No view of island of Siquijor to the west. No View of Mt. Hibok Hibok’s Crater Lake.

The trek did not end there. Time to descend.

Going up is optional getting down is mandatory.

NIGHT TREK

Descending was more challenging and technical. Wet trails, loose rocks, and eroded soils were on our way.  Tummy’s grumbling. Legs were trembling. Go for Ardent Spring.

And after an estimated 5 hours of going down, at last we finally arrived. That was several minutes after 12midnight. CONGRATULATIONS to all=D

An “Untouched” waterfall settling in the highlands of Oslob.

“Mag-Ambak Falls”, the “habal-habal” driver called it. (That’s when I asked him off from the waterfall).  Few locals call it “Toslob Falls”.  (As of this writing, I still do not know its official name.)

This is an ideal place to splurge after a busy weekday. Quiet, cold and magnificent, I should say. You can’t go for a dip here unlike the other waterfalls. Getting wet here is through its falling fresh cold waters as if playin’ under the rain . And believe me, you can see rainbows half-fathom away from where you stay. Waters on the ground are just ankle-level that are directly flowing to the river. If you are that adventurous and risky, you can find ways to climb-up as this falls is like composed of mini-waterfalls by level.

Tables, chairs, & sari-sari store are nowhere to be found here. No entrance fee. No exit fee. All free! Cool isn’t it?

How to get here:

[CEBU CITY]

Take a bus ride at South Bus Terminal going OSLOB – for PhP155*

• Inform the driver/conductor to drop you off at “Eskina Saging” Tumalog, Oslob
• Travel time would take a minimum of 3 hours

[Tumalog, Oslob]

-Take a habal-habal ride – for Php30*

• Inform the driver to bring to Mag-Ambak Falls (or just say the nearest falls)
• You will be dropped off a-stone-throw away from the falls
• Travel time would take about 10mins.
• Better to inform the driver to come back, set time, as there are no habal2x waiting at the area. Or else, you can just walk for (I guess) 30mins.

*May change.

Suggestion:

There are so many beautiful things to do in Oslob or the nearest Town, for instance, the swimming with Whale Sharks in Tan-Awan.  You can continue your day here or vice versa. Just have an itinerary.

Another experience of a kind.
Imagine, I was able to try a ‘lil of skimboarding – worth to be part of my memoir.

Mikel, the PERSON I envied much of being ADVENTUROUS (not to mention the PHOTOGRAPHER side of him, MALOOY LNG TA!), invited me to a weekend nature adventure, beachneering. Of course, I nodded immendiately. Why woudn’t I when it is my nature?

He told us to have at most 1K php, as budget. Whooooa, that’s a big amount at that time (Tingbitay! Malayo pa ang SWELDAY!) I and Pipoy shared the same sentiment, the maximum we can afford was 500php, but this wasn’t able to hinder us – To TABUELAN, we MUST GO!

Brought my day-hike backpack, inside were my beach tent, extra clothes, personal hygiene stuffs, gadgets etc. and of course, my 500 bucks.

wOpppsss! Sarry! I’m no good in wheels (don’t know what brand and model. All I know, it was pick-up type vehicle where all the boys stayed at the back.

The day was good! (wHaaat? It was raining? Ayt?).
Yeah! Again, it was GOOD (for me). Mr. sunshine had a rest day. From the venue,we were gathering, up the stunning and scenic beach side we were staying, RAIN was with us. How cool was that? Indeed a wet escapade.

Normally, from the city proper to Tabuelan, it would take 3 hours or more via a BUS ride. But our trip was definitely not categorized as NORMAL. Good heavens! We were able to reach the municipality in just 2 hours (not exact actually). I felt like we were in a drag race (hahahah! Feeler?). The super rocky(double-dutch?) road, the muddy-(whatever-u-call-it)-clay road etc….EXTREME road-trip, I may say.

Alas! TOUCHDOWN! BRGY Maravilla, Tabuelan.
The night was a bit cold and wet.

The food was not free of course, we shared 50php each, good for dinner and breakfast for the next morning.

The Brgy. Officials were so good and generous to us. They let us stayed the night at the Tourism Center – with tables and chairs – where we prepared the dinner, and kept our things.

HELLO Tabuelan!

As the heat of the SUN aroused, the beauty and the breath-taking scenery of Tabuelan’s white sandbars shone.

I was not dissapponted, I was OVERWHELMED.

The fact that I do not know how to swim… rephrase…
The fact that I am not confident in swimming (much better to hear), it was never a worry. I only have to cross the water in a knee-deep high (LMAO!) to reach the very fine and white sandbars.

Let me just skip the non-beach(water) activities we had, proceed to…

SKIM-BOARDING!

Mikel is well adept in skim-boarding, me a big-time LOSER!!!
While waiting for the low-tide, we first practiced and played skimboarding near the seashore. At first, I hesitated because the board was heavy and I did have a hard time on how to properly hold and dropped the board on the water. Trial and error. I was really a loser. My colleagues who were practicing with me learned fast after several tries, but me? Hahahahahahaha! Grade F, as in FAILED!

Fast forward…. again, non-water fun activities were excluded. HAHAHAHAH…

Wait… I still have 450 PHP (BWAHAHAHAH!).
Since we were staying at the Tourism Center, we donated 50PHP each  - not bad enough.

Generous Lyzel did not ask anything from us for the fuel. HAHAHAHAHA. So kind of her.

TO CEBU…

If it took us 2hours (+) to TABUELAN, this time (heading home) only less than 2 hours. Just imagine how we (the guys) were doing at the back knowing the RAIN was accompanying us (again).

Indeed an EXTREME, WET and FUN Weekend .

The day I was able to set-foot Cebu’s Vegetable Basket and Summer Capital, Dalaguete. Been roaming and visiting beautiful places of Cebu from North to South and alas, Dalaguete is now listed.. Myriad thanks to Ms. Juliet Amazona of iTravel iTours for giving us, CBSi Bloggers, the chance to experience the lovely and serene place. Actually, if not because of Mark Monta of FaceCebu.net, Dalaguete will still be in my places-to-visit list. My greatest and sincerest gratitude to you sir Monta for the invite.

The original plan was to cover the “Dalaguete Tri-Centennial Run” since it was one of the events of the Municipality on celebrating its 300 years of existence – 300 years of grace and pride – and glad and proud to say, I experienced many things.

I am not a vege-type of person, but when we had our dinner together with the Municipal Tourist Officer – Sir Vic , print media writers from CDN and the FREEMAN, some runners, and Ms. Juliet at Maria’s Batchoy and Restaurant , all I saw on the dining table were servings of different types of foods, all with… vegetables. Did not want to disappoint them, did not have the guts to say, I am not a vegetarian, but what would I expect? I was in the vege-capital of Cebu, so? Veggies are to be served.

I ate… and ate… and ate… And it was, a Lot! Amazing! I was able to pig-out bunch of veggies for the first time in my life. Savoring and nomnoming the freshly and supahliciously cooked specialties of the place, and take note, with veggies on it – one of which was Chopsuey, mMmm… me Love! . Another experience worth to be included in my memoir.

After our sumptuous and voracious (and of course, healthy) dinner, we proceeded to the municipal gym to witness the All Star PBA Basketball Challenge. The crowd were so entertained because the famous local celebrities – Joross Gamboa, Christopher De Leon, Philip Salvador, etc – were part of the game. Few minutes passed, we headed to Jonadel’s Resort and Pension to rest… ZzZzzzz

Feb 7, 2011 – Fun Run Time! Another first time in me – to join a fun run. Splendid! Took some shoots at the meeting venue before the event started and at the fun run proper. I, with my co-bloggers’ Mark MOnta and Angeli Bas, decided to run with the 5k catergory.

Dalaguete is a place worth to visit to. The accommodating people, the clean and tidy surroundings and of course, the nature’s gifts – Osmeña peak, Obong Spring, etc. Unfortunately, was not able to visit the places mentioned, but surely, very soon… I will.

…cyber-peeps’ bonding, OFFLINE.

Members of the well-known CEBU online forum, ISTORYA.net, went wet and wild as they tighten-up their bonding,  not via the cyberspace but in the real world, through hopping the different islands near Mactan, Cebu – water adventure.

We visited four lovely and stunning islands, namely : Pandanon Island, Gilutungan Marine Sanctuary, Caohagan IslanD and Sulpa islanD. The weather was with us. The sun was so high and the waters were so calm. That was really our day.

Everything was (almost)perfect. A hassle-free island island hopping experience since we did not prepare anything. Foods? Drinks? Zero! We just negotiated a representative from CEBU ISLAND BUFFET to do all the stuffs. All we did was to pay per-head and done! The food was great, and take note… UNLIMITED! Lots of dishes and cuisine to choose from their menu, so no worries.

A trip of “SWIM and EAT” all we can. Originally, only three (3) islands are part of the package (Gilutungan Marine Sanctuary, Caohagan IslanD and Sulpa island) and since the group decided to add one (1), so Pandanon Island was included.

Each of us paid PHP600 (additional 100 for the 4th island) and we were 15 that time. Don’t know more of their offered packages (surely, there are changes as of this writing), just visit their official portal – CIB.

Lookin’ for an extreme adventure that would help conquer your fear of heights (slight)? Zip-lining  would be  perfect  to try to. Aha! I am not that chicken-hearted type of person in terms of heights  if I am to look only, but beyond that, my “all” will surely quiver.

Last July (end of the week), I, together with my officemates, were able to experience this extreme sports (ZIP LINING)- if  I’m not mistaken, that’s our first time. We were all virgin (lol) – at  ”Adventure Cafe” located at Gaas, Balambam. A 30-45 min drive from JY square or Marco Polo via the scenic transcentral highway.

How to get there?

Via public vehicles: V-hire at Ayala Center or Citilink. Take Balamban via transcentral highway route.

As I’ve said, I am okay only if I am to look on heights, but this one is different. My heart was throbbing so fast and my knees was shaking to the bones when I was harnessed. And the zip-lining? Please see video below: (Thanks Jic for this one ^__^)

We made it, I made it. Indeed a lovely and heart-pumping extreme adventure.
