Spelunking at Murga-Kabuthan Cave

“LAKAT LANG” peeps, together with us (newbies), went spelunking last June 7, 2010. The weather tried to stop us, it rained so hard. But around 9am, the heaven’s good to us and so… to Murga Cave, We Go!

Murga Cave settles from the mountains of Brgy. Bonbon, Cebu City. Good for us that we had our tranpo that made us hassle-free going to the place. From the city proper, it would only take an estimated of 1 hour to reach the secluded baranggay.

Let the adventure begin!
Headlamps, trekking shoes, hand gloves, etc…. CHECK! All set…

We needed to park our transpo alongside the main road and to walk approximately 1(one) hour. When we were at the foot of the mountain ,where Murga Cave hides, huge rocks with waters flowing were on our sight. Passing on those wet and slippery rocks was a must for us to reach the mouth of the cave.

Crawling… Climbing… Sweating… Laughing… to Murga Cave, We Go!

And alas, we made it. We survived the warm-up stage ^_^

Before we entered the cave and did the spelunking, we ate our lunch first and after that, the real adventure began!

This is the mouth of Murga Cave. To swim is a must before entering. The rope serves a purpose to those who don’t know how to swim, and that includes moi =)

Thanks muchess to our locals who tied the rope for us, it did help a lot. Total zero light inside the cave. The cold water made us chilled to the bones. WALKING… SWIMMING… LAUGHING… Spelunking at Murga Cave!

I was uber-amazed of that spelunking experience - swimming, walking, soaking, laughing. The adventure ended as we reached the other end of the cave.

Let the photos below speak my gazillion words…

And I was the first to comment… Sa blogger language pa, Base!

For years we have been trekking Bonbon and the intertwining streams in the area. Even conquered its Buktot Falls but we have not heard yet of Murga Cave! And to think that one of my trekking and photography buddies is a former member of USC’s mountaineering club…

Nice adventure… Quite small cave though, and it pales in size to Argao’s Balay sa Agta… Nonetheless, it is still beautiful… I just hope that the guides know of the proper ways inside the cave since I am seeing small stalactite development and some crystal formations. It would be sad if enjoying it would lead to its demise…
